Moroccan Oasis Ritual

Bath, Body and Mindfulness Ritual

Step into your own private oasis with this Moroccan-inspired wellness ritual. Let the warmth of the hammam cleanse your body, the richness of argan oil nourish your skin, and the soothing mint tea calm your mind. This ritual is your invitation to escape the ordinary and emerge feeling refreshed, renewed, and deeply connected to both yourself and the beauty of Moroccan traditions.

1. Create Your Oasis: Setting the Scene

You will need:

  • Natural soap
  • Exfoliating mitt
  • Argan oil (or your favourite body oil)
  • Moroccan mint tea (or any kind of mint tea will do)

Transform your bathroom into a serene sanctuary. Dim the lights, light some candles, and play your Moroccan radio to set the mood. This is your time to unwind and step away from the demands of the day.

2. The Hammam Ritual: Self-Shower and Scrub

  • Step 1: Start by warming up your bathroom with steam. Let the hot water run for a few minutes until the space feels like a warm, enveloping hug.
  • Step 2: Use a natural soap or savon noir (black soap) on your damp skin. Massage it in circular motions, letting the soap cleanse deeply.
  • Step 3: After a few minutes, use a kessa glove or an exfoliating mitt to gently scrub your body, removing dead skin cells and revealing smooth, refreshed skin underneath.
  • Step 4: Rinse off with warm water, letting the stress and toxins of the day wash away.

3. Nourish and Hydrate: Argan Oil Application

  • Step 1: After drying off, apply warm argan oil or your favourite body oil substitute to your skin. Start at your feet and work your way up, massaging the oil into your skin in slow, soothing movements.
  • Step 2: As you massage, take deep breaths, inhaling the earthy, nutty scent of the oil. Let it hydrate your skin and ground your spirit, connecting you to the ancient traditions of Morocco.

4. Mint Tea Meditation: Sip and Reflect

  • Step 1: Brew a pot of fresh Moroccan mint tea. Use green tea, fresh mint leaves, and a touch of honey or sugar if desired.
  • Step 2: Find a quiet, comfortable space to sit. Hold your cup of tea in both hands, feeling its warmth.
  • Step 3: As you sip, close your eyes and imagine yourself in a tranquil Moroccan courtyard. Focus on the cooling sensation of the mint and the warmth of the tea as it soothes you from within.
  • Step 4: Take this moment to meditate, setting a timer for your desired length and using this time to reflect on the sensations in your body, just like you did with the oil, this time mindfully do a body scan starting with the feet and working your way up.

5. Emerge Renewed: The Final Step

As you complete this ritual, take a moment to bask in the calm and rejuvenation you’ve created. You’ve honoured your body, nurtured your skin, and found peace in the present moment. Carry this tranquillity with you into the rest of your day, knowing that you’ve touched upon the long held traditions of Moroccan wellness.
